A Long, Long Time Coming...

The Lord is SO Good! Ethan Grusy is Here!
Psalm 95:6 "Oh come let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our MAKER"

We are finally posting! As most of you know, since our last post (yes, about a month ago :-) ) we had our baby. Ethan Adam Grusy was born at 6:35 on Wednesday, November 14th. It is pretty amazing looking at Ethan and thinking about the wonderful Creator we have. Ethan was who God was so marvelously forming inside of me throughout the whole pregnancy. It was incredible to think about that after meeting our son for the first time. Even after a month, it is still pretty surreal that Ethan was inside of me and that he is now actually here! : -) What a blessing from the Lord he has been! God has already been using this small, oh so cute little boy to teach us many things about Himself and our evident need of His grace in parenting. We consider each day that the Lord sustains Ethan's life a true, gracious gift. Looking at Ethan each day is such a good reminder that there most definitely is a God whose, as Psalm 139 says, "works are wonderful!" We praise Him for opening our eyes to His truth and graciously saving us through Jesus Christ. We pray that He will use us as parents to raise Ethan in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
An appropriate time to remember what Psalm 139:13-16 says about our marvelous Creator:
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be"

PICTURES OF THE BIG DAY and the BIRTH STORY:
My water broke at 11:45 PM on the 13th. Adam and I hopped up out of bed and Adam threw his hospital bag together in record time (thinking that we had to go to the hospital right away). I called the hospital and talked to the Doctor on call. I said, "Um... I think my water has just broken." The Doctor: "ah uh?.... pause" (I'm thinking she is going to tell me what to do, but she doesn't say anything). So I say, "SO... what exactly do I do now?" The Doctor then proceded to tell me that I could come into the hospital right away or I could wait until the contractions were 5 minutes apart for an hour. Because we didn't want to be waiting around at the hospital a really long time, we decided to stay home for awhile. In the pregnancy books they tell you to try to go back to sleep if your labor starts at night. Yeah right. The authors who have written those books must not have experienced going into labor at night themselves. : - ) Anyway, we stayed up all night watching episodes of "The Office" and keeping track of my contractions. We decided to head into the hospital at 7:30 in the morning after a walk around the block in an attempt to get labor to progress more quickly. We arrived at the hospital at about 8:00. We got checked in and I was measured by my Doctor to see where I was at. I was a whopping 2 cm dilated... still had quite a ways to go. The Doctor let Adam and I walk around (meaning walk up and down a short hallway) for about 2 hours to see if that would help move things. At 11:00 I got checked again... no change. The Doctor then said she needed to start me on pitocin to get things moving more quickly. After being on pitocin for an hour and half, I decided to... yes, have an epidural! :-) I would recommend them to anyone. It really helped to make the whole labor experience more enjoyable. I was 9 cm dilated by about 3:00 or so and the doctor came in around 4:30 and said that I was ready to push! (this was pretty crazy and exciting, as both Adam and I are realizing that we are going to get to see our baby VERY soon). I had to wait a while to actually start pushing, however, b/c there was another woman down the hall who was having her second child and they thought her baby was going to come a lot sooner than Ethan. At 6:17 the nurse came in to help me start pushing (Adam was a big help as well... he did so good!! I was very proud of him. He didn't get freaked out at all and was very involved in the whole process). I pushed for a little over 15 minutes and Ethan came out into the world at 6:35 the night of the 14th! It was so incredible seeing him for the first time!! He weighed in at 6 lbs 14 oz. and was 20-21 inches long.

Pictures taken shortly after my water broke and of labor/delivery.

Cute pictures of our little guy:

The Day we left the hospital and pictures at home with our son.

First Bath! He loves it and we have also discovered that he not only likes to bathe but also loves to be blow dried as well ;) (Adam's very clever discovery... it's pretty funny)

These next pictures are a good representation of the amount of sleep we got the first couple weeks after Ethan was born.

Ethan's first walk around the Capital.

Here are pictures of all our friends who came to visit us! Thanks to everyone who encouraged us by coming to visit!! We felt very loved and Ethan tells us that he really enjoyed meeting all of you!

Grandpa Grusy meets his grandson for the first time... ahh :-)

More updates to come very soon! Sorry that it has taken us so long. We hope to be more consistent with our posts, we promise!
