A Good Reminder.

When I hear of devastating storms, such as hurricanes and tornadoes, I am reminded of how small I am and how BiG God is!

A couple months ago there was a tornado that hit Jackson, TN (where Stephen and Shelley live). When I was there visiting, Shelley took us around to show us some of the buildings that are still in pieces as a result of the of the tornado. The university that Shelley went to, Union University was one of the places that was hit pretty bad(click on link to see pics of the damage right after the tornado hit). It is only because of God's goodness and grace that no one was killed. These pictures are of a doctor's office building that sits right next to the hospital that Shelley works at. It is amazing that the hospital wasn't hit as well.

Romans 1: 19-20 - For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

God has been so kind to give us reminders of himself in creation. I am convicted by this passage in realizing that I so often don't take note of God's power and might and the fact that he is in full control of this world and everything in it. I pray for myself and for all you "grusy blog readers" that our hearts would not be hardened to seeing God's power and divine work in our lives and in the world around us. Praise God that because of Jesus Christ's death on the cross on behalf of our sins, we are "excused"! How sweet is the truth for Christians that Christ's righteousness is our own and that God's judgement rests on us no more! May God remind us daily of our incredible need of him. May we be truly repentant of our sins, and rejoice in our salvation. May our faith in Christ's saving, finished work increase with each day the Lord gives us.

2 Corinthians 4:16-17 - So we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

Seeing the tornado damage was a good reminder to me that this world is indeed temporary. This world is wasting away, and even I, at the young age of 24 :-) am wasting away with it. I don't know the number of my days, but I praise God that no matter what happens on this earth or to my body, I am being renewed day by day and have assurance that I will one day be with him in paradise. I pray that you are encouraged by this as well!

Jenny,

After hearing about the devastating cyclone in Myanmar, I thought about your post. What power that storm had...yet God is more powerful. I know, even in this, we will see His mighty hand at work. Thank you for reminding us how Awesome our GOD is.

Love,
Mom G
